Is the ACDP for Christians only?
Not
at all. We believe that the Godly principles for which we stand are
common to the majority of South Africans irrespective of religious
belief.
Won’t a vote for the ACDP split the opposition vote?
This
claim is only ever made by the official opposition party, often
forgetting that when they were a small party, the only way they grew
was by “splitting the opposition vote”. The ACDP will never grow unless
people vote for our principles rather than voting for another party out
of fear.
Aren’t there Christians in every political party?
That
is true but unfortunately, when it comes to voting for legislation, you
can’t tell a Christian MP in a party from any other MP in a party –
party discipline requires them to vote as one irrespective of personal
beliefs. (Where were these Christians when abortion was legalised?)
Why should Christians get involved in politics?
As
Christians we are called to be salt and light – salting everything with
the presence of God and shining the light of Christ into every dark
corner. This includes politics where significant decisions affecting
the quality of life of every person are made.
Why did the ACDP vote against the Constitution?
Politically
we were unable to persuade the Constitutional Assembly that certain
provisions contained in the Bill of rights were contrary to our
Christian Democratic values, and therefore exercised our political
choice in not voting for the Constitution.
I need to vote for the largest opposition party for my vote to make a difference
No, this is not true. Every vote makes a difference. SA has a Proportional system that allows the votes to be added and the party to have representatives (Clrs, MP) according to the proportion of the votes recieved. Thus if the ACDP gets 30% of the votes it may have 30% Proportional Representatives in that Council or Parliament. It is more important to make sure that the Political Party that you vote for stands for the principles you believe in. What does it matter that you voted for a majority party that votes in Same Sex Marriage or Property Tax if you do not believe in that? You have then gained nothing, your will has not been upheld. When you vote for a Party that has the principles that you believe in in their constitution and Party Policies they will fight for their policies and yours as well. To see if the ACDP Policy aligns with yours download our Policy Document from Documents section or contact us for it. To make South Africa truly change we need to vote for a Principle not an opposition.
Is the ACDP small?
No, the ACDP has been in excistence since 1994. It has grown with every election (one of the very few parties that have) In the 2006 Local Government Elections it was the 5th largest party in South Africa. We are gaining support everyday as people see that we are there to do the work and also we are there to oppose wrong decisions. Even with a few MP's the ACDP makes a huge impact and has been successful in opposing various issues.
Why don't we see the ACDP in the news? Don't you have an opinion on . . . ?
We do press Releases on a daily basis. The media does not always print our views and statements. If you want to read our views on issues :Go to our Newsletter section. Every National Press release is there. You might be surprised to see how many and how accurate and to the point they are. Forward them to friends.
What is the ACDP view on Zimbabwe?
Rev Kenneth Meshoe, MP and President of the ACDP spoke on Zimbabwe today: "The ACDP calls for Robert Mugabe to be pressured to step down and a unity government to be put in place without him. For the sake of the people of Zimbabwe, South Africa must stop shielding Robert Mugabe. The ACDP agrees with commentators that South Africa has the economic, political and military leverage to rescue Zimbabweans from their leader; yet President Motlanthe not only refuses to act but actively blocks intervention by other countries. Those in South Africa who support this unquestionable policy have become accessories to a grave humanitarian crime.
The ACDP is disappointed to see South Africa renege on its statement that the R300m agricultural aid package to Zimbabwe would not be released until a unity government was in place. It is reported that SA is now permitting its release now under the SADC aid arrangement.
The fact that South Africa will be vacating the United Nations Security seat in two weeks time, will be a blessing for the ordinary people of Zimbabwe as they will no longer see South Africa block UN Security Council resolutions that might help rid them of this paranoid tyrant.. The ACDP is hopeful that with the French taking over the UNSC seat, they will apply severe sanctions against Mugabe and his cronies. While Mugabe plays for time by pretending to consider a unity government, his supporters continue to abduct and murder opposition MDC leaders. The fact that he is talking about new elections while pursuing his reign of terror is clearly his attempt to cripple the opposition in any such election. He should be arrested and tried in the International Court of Justice in the Hague. If he leaves Zim for another country, the ACDP calls on that country to hand him over." ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- For more information, contact Rev Kenneth Meshoe, MP and President of the ACDP, 082 962 5884 Or Ms Libby Norton ACDP Press Attaché, Parliament. 07 25 70 636l lnorton@parliament.gov.za
Is the ACDP anti-Constitution?
The
ACDP is fully supportive of a constitutional democracy, as long as the
laws or constitutional provisions passed by such a dispensation do not
conflict with what we would refer to as the transcendent law of God.
Isn’t the ACDP a white party?
Not at all. Look at our parliamentarians and ask which party is more representative of all racial groups than us.
Isn’t the ACDP a black party?
Not
at all. See the answer above. A study by the Human Sciences Research
Council earlier in 2000 showed the demographics of our support to be
50% black, 18% white & coloured and 12% Asian.
I would like to vote for you because I support your principles but want to know more about your policy on affirmative action and BEE?
ISSUES IN FOCUS - BEE
Black economimc empowerment necessary, but should be capped
The ACDP recognises the need for affirmative action to address persistent inequalities that are racially based. However we believe that there should be a sunset clause and the policy should be phased out once equality has been objectively achieved.
The ACDP is aware of the outcry from many black entrepreneurs who feel that the government's broad based black economic empowerment programme is not benefiting those who are most disadvantaged. We believe that the current application of BEE by the government tends to benefit only a few established BEE companies which may be politically well-connected, without sharing the benefits and helping to develop emerging companies. This current system works against smaller BEE companies that are instructed to form consortiums with larger existing BEE companies, compelling them to partner companies which are already benefiting from tenders.
We believe a plan should be devised whereby once BEE companies reach a stage where they have made a certain profit and are established, other BEE companies should be given tenders, thereby enabling the growth of this sector, creating wealth and job opportunities. A BEE company that has reached a stage where it is well-established and making a profit is no longer disadvantaged and should compete on even terms in the business arena. Opportunities can then be given to developing BEE companies to grow and share in the profits
The purpose of this strategy would be to broaden the BEE base so that the same companies do not benefit from government and private sector tenders over and over again.
